I need to get a gift for an attorney, engraved how do i address it, withe his name and attorney or lawyer?
i want to have a frame engraved with his name, he just graduated law school, do i also engrave attorney at law. or lawyer. not sure whats proper after his name
Find out what degree his law school issues. In some cases , it is JD, Juris Doctorate, LLB, etc. A call to the registrar's office will get you that information. Have the frame engraved, John Smith, LLB( or what they issue), State Law School, May 2011.

What is a good thank you gift for a lawyer that has worked pro bono for two years, Family Domestic?
My daughter was taken by her father and left the state illegally. My attorney has worked for me for free since she went missing.I might get her back today, or it will go to trial. He does not want money.
You might start by writing a letter expressing your appreciation for what he has done for you, and sending it to the local bar association. That organization may then choose to recognize him for his efforts; and if he's done this for you, he's likely done it for others as well. And make sure that you send him a copy of the letter.
Is there another way for a father to have visitation other than hiring an attorney?
My brother has been paying child support payments, but the child's mother won't allow him to see the boy. she doesn't forward messages or gifts. in the beginning there was contact but only because she wanted a relationship. he bought her a car, gifts, stuff for the baby...but now that years have gone by and they are not together, she won't allow my brother to see his son. he does't have enough money to hire another lawyer. (the first one took his money, then didn't do anything, missed some deadlines, it was horrible) my parents are also heartsick about not getting to see their grandchild. I've talked to my nephew before and learned that the mother lied about not having his dad's contact information. what can we do?? We are in Minnesota. we are all heartbroken about not being able to see him, and are afraid that he thinks we don't WANT to see him. Any help would be appreciated. Also--the boy is 8 year old now.
i've looked online and it's all very confusing. does anyone know of a process/form/action that can be filed with/without legal representation to get visitation rights?
I too live in Minnesota. Several times I've filed Motions for contempt on my ex for not allowing me to see our Joint Custody children - her having physical custody. There's sites to download the "Motions" too. Most the time when I've done this I went without an attorney. It does help a lot to have an attorney, but Courts here do not tolerate when a custodial parent refuses access of the children. Do a search on the Internet for Attorney General's Office of (list state) and you'll at least have a start. Likewise try searching for 'non-custodial parents rights' - stuff like that. Best of luck!
Power of Attorney question - Ability of Gifting; Estate Power Option.?
My mom is making out her will / power of attorney papers. The lawyer mentioned something about the Estate Power Option of ability of Gifting in regards to the Financial Power of Attorney. Can anyone explain it to me in simple "English"? I don't understand it and I've looked on the internet, and I'm not having any luck finding a "simple" explanation. Also, is it recommended that it is included?Thank you in advance for all your time and trouble.
I'm an estate attorney. Financial POAs can authorize agents to do a number of different things, including the right to give the principal's property away (the "principal" is the person who creates the POA). The power to give property away is called a "gifting" power. These gifting powers can be unlimited (the agent can give all of the principal's property away) or limited (can only give specific amounts or to specific people). Whether or not the gifting power is a good idea, and whether or not it should be limited, and if so, how, varies a lot depending on the person. There is no "blanket" recommendation on this. However, here are some different things that are taken into consideration: Unlimited gifting powers can be useful for purposes of Medicaid planning or estate tax planning. Limited powers can permit gifts up to the current federal gift tax annual exclusion (currently 13k per donee) which permits normal gifting to children, grandchildren, etc. Hope this helps.
